Pilates for back pain
Pilates for Back Pain in Montreal
Pilates for back pain at MTLPILATES builds the deep abdominal, spinal and pelvic support that reduces loading on the lumbar spine. We begin in private sessions where an instructor adapts the repertoire to your specific diagnosis, working alongside your physiotherapist or sports doctor.

Does Pilates help with lower-back pain?
Yes. Pilates strengthens the deep core and spinal stabilizers, restoring the alignment and mobility a seated day quietly erodes. Start with a few privates to build real body awareness—then group classes can make a great addition, supporting your consistency.
Clinical programmes that show measurable gains typically run 6 to 12 weeks with 2 to 3 supervised sessions per week. That is the pattern we build toward: consistent, progressive work rather than a single fix.
This is movement re-education, not medical treatment. If your pain is acute or undiagnosed, see a physician or physiotherapist first, then we can work alongside their guidance.
Who this is for

The desk worker
Stiff hips, a rounded upper back, a nagging lower back after long hours seated. No diagnosis, just the cost of the chair. The Ladder Barrel and Reformer target exactly this.

Post-injury or post-surgery
Rebuilding on spring-supported apparatus alongside your physiotherapist, at a pace matched to your recovery. Private-first, and clearance comes before the first session.

Prenatal & postnatal
Back and pelvic load change through pregnancy and recovery. During pregnancy, we strongly recommend private lessons or duos, with small group lessons available upon request.
What if my back pain has a diagnosis?
You are still welcome, but the route is different. Clients with stenosis, spondylolisthesis, a hernia, osteopenia or osteoporosis, or spine surgery to rehabilitate, start privately and need clearance from a physician or physiotherapist before a first session. This is a requirement, not a suggestion.
A named diagnosis does not close the door, it decides where you come in. The instructor builds the session inside the limits your clinician has set, which is exactly why the work starts one-to-one rather than in a group of twelve.
The full list of conditions the studio accepts, and how the private pathway runs, lives on the rehabilitation page.
